ABOUT
About
Crystal Xinjie Wang is a PhD student in the School of Chinese at the University of Hong Kong. She holds an MA from the University of Chicago and a BA from the University of Hong Kong. Her research centers on contemporary Sinophone women filmmakers and transnational cinema, examining questions of embodiment, diaspora, and mobility in their cinematic practices. Her broader interests include feminist and queer studies across Sinophone and South Korean cultural contexts, as well as the intersections of film, video art, and media archaeology.
Beyond research, she is interested in literary and cinematic translation. She also engages with film criticism and curation, with a particular interest in fostering visibility for independent cinema. In her spare time, she enjoys wandering through cinemas and visual culture museums, immersing herself in images, sounds, and the historical traces they carry.
